with: Dirty Diamonds / Happy Valley Clan (Nathalie Stern & Graham Wales) / OCDC / Bridie Jackson / Emily Portman / Rebecca Jones / Christi Andropolis / Krista Puranen
Following our successful Murder Ballads evening in May, we’re launching ourselves liver first into a special night of songs about alcohol and drunkenness.
While concept albums are a relatively common phenomenon – Frank Sinatra’s In the Wee Small Hours came out in 1955 -Urban & Eastern has been inspired by Bob Dylan’s Theme Time Radio Hour to apply the principle to live music.
So in honour of Oktoberfest, an all-star cast of North Eastern musicians will watch their lives float away through the bottom of a glass.
The bleary eyed talent will include Belgian/Irish acoustic star Rebecca Jones, and traditional twisted folk from Emily Portman and fiddler Christi Andropolis.
Also sharing the bill will be Happy Valley Clan, the latest collaboration between Graham Wales (Mansions of Glory) and one-woman Swedish folk choir Nathalie Stern.
Expect smoky Finnish tango from Krista Puranen (above right), stark Fado influenced folk/blues from rising-star Bridie Jackson and the lo-fi back-porch oddity that is OCDC.
Topping off the evening’s talent will be Dirty Diamonds with their Appalachian-influenced banjo and ukulele.
The evening is sponsored by our friends at Wylam Brewery, Allendale Brewery, and at Hepworth & Co Brewers Ltd, so expect lots of wonderful local and organic ales.
Tickets are £5 on the door.
