with: Shipcote & Friends / Nicky Rushton & Zoe Lambert
The Cumberland Arms
Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom

Saturday, October 11 at 8:00pm

Wranglers-wearing Alan Tyler began his pioneering English country rock adventure back in the earlynineties with his band The Rockingbirds. Inspired by the cosmic American music of Gram Parsons and the Flying Burrito Brothers, they made two critically acclaimed albums on the Heavenly (Sony/Columbia) label -The Rockingbirds (1992) and Whatever Happened to the Rockingbirds (1994) and the band went on to tour extensively, with main stage festival appearances at Glastonbury (4 times) Reading (twice) Phoenix, Cambridge, and Finsbury Park Fleadh etc.

They also made numerous TV appearances including Later with Jools Holland, Top of the Pops and MTV.

More recently Tyler and Rockingbirds bass player Chris Clarke have been joined by guitarist Paul Lush, fiddle and mandolin man Jim Morrison, and Canadian drummer Phil Van Couver (formerly of The Hypnotics, Monochrome Set, The Raincoats) to form Alan Tyler and the Lost Sons of Littlefield (Littlefield being the birthplace of Waylon Jennings, Tyler’s favourite singer).

Tyler is justifiably praised for creating beautifully crafted songs with universal themes in a traditionally American genre. But he is also one of the very few artists who is able to successfully tell his tales with lyrics originating from an unmistakably English standpoint.

He’ll be supported at the Cumberland by Gateshead Americana legend Graham Shipcote Anderson and Friends, and by folk-country duo Nicky Rushton and Zoe Lambert.
